Great reasons to visit Puerto Rico
Puerto Rico is an island in the Caribbean that's straightforward to get to and straightforward to explore. Just 110 miles wide by 40 miles high miles, Puerto Rico is simple to find a way around by vehicle and since it is in the U. S. Commonwealth, American voters don't need a passport and do not have to change currency either – they use the US dollar!
There are several flights from the US mainland and the key airport, located in the major city of San Juan, is the Caribbean’s biggest air center and so if you are travelling somewhere else you're likely to go thru San Juan anyway.
Of course many people travel there in the winter to enjoy some sunshine and the top months for tourism are in Jan and February, which actually are Puerto Rico’s coolest months. Still, the sea is warm and the beaches golden. And if you like water-based activities of all sorts the island is perfect to take part or learn a new ability.
Scuba divers will adore the coral reefs, full of bright tropical fish and there are several dive operators dotted all around the coast. You'll find a dive center thru PADI, or you hotel may be able to recommend on how to get in contact.
Puerto Rico’s economy was based mostly on the production of sugar and coffee and so if you are a coffee lover you should love Puerto Rico. One of the brands, Alto Grande, is respected around the world and has the slogan “the coffee of Popes and Kings”!
The food is reasonably distinct and not to everyone's taste, but you should truly give it a try. Mofongo is composed of plaintains that've been fried, mashed and cooked again with garlic and pork crackling and served beef. Actually the cuisine comes from the Taino and Arawak Indians that originally live there, with influences from Spain, Africa and the United States, so it’s quite a mix.
